About the book and the author:
As co-host of the nationally-syndicated hip-hop radio show “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne Tha God has provocatively introduced Kanye West to listeners as “Kanye Kardashian,” asked Sean “Puffy” Combs about rumors implicating him in the murder of Tupac Shakur, and asked presidential candidate Hillary Clinton if she was pandering to the black vote. Known for the bold and often news-making interviews he conducts with the A-list celebrities that visit the show, it is Charlamagne’s commitment to honesty that has contributed to the program’s soaring popularity and earned him the title of “hip-hop’s Howard Stern” (Rolling Stone). In his highly anticipated book, BLACK PRIVILEGE: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It, Charlamagne Tha God traces his against-all-odds rise to the top of the media kingdom to share the valuable life lessons he learned that anyone can apply to his or her own life.

Born in Charleston S.C., but raised in the small, rural, area of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Charlamagne Tha God craved books and was a self-described nerd as a kid, but once he started running with the wrong crowd to avoid being bullied by them, the nerd turned to the “thug life.” By the time he turned eighteen, Charlamagne had been expelled from two high schools and went to jail twice for gun and drug offenses—a downward spiral only to be righted by a determination to transcend his circumstances and not end up in jail, dead, or broke sitting under a tree like his father predicted he would. An internship at a local radio station in Charleston, S.C. was the biggest catalyst for Charlamagne changing his lifestyle, which in turn changed his life.

In BLACK PRIVILEGE, Charlamagne recounts his remarkable ascent from the backwoods of Moncks Corner, South Carolina to becoming one of the co-hosts of the nationally syndicated radio show, “The Breakfast Club” and host of MTV 2’s “Uncommon Sense.” The many mistakes and setbacks he experienced along the way taught him powerful lessons that he now wants to share in order to help make someone else’s journey easier. Some of the principles that Charlamagne learned and now wants to share include:

· If You Don't Have Anything Nice To Say, Say It Anyway: Honesty is the best policy, straight talk, no chaser. It sounds cliché but the truth hurts whether you’re telling it to yourself or someone else

· Put the Weed in the Bag: Success is a process; there are no cheat codes, no life hacks, just basic steps that have to happen before you prosper.

· Live Your Truth: So no one can use your truth against you. No judgement or opinion formed against you shall prosper when you Live Your Truth.

· Embrace Your Privilege: God created us exactly how he wanted us to be and who he wanted us to be. God blessed us with the privilege of being here and regardless of what this society tries to tell us about ourselves. God designed us to win, and once we embrace our privilege, we will.

Entertaining, eye-opening, and always brutally honest, BLACK PRIVILEGE will inspire readers to identify and pursue the life that’s right for them through the example that Charlamagne Tha God has led.
