About Coolhaus Ice Cream Book:

What do you get when you combine a love of architecture with food and creative spunk? When architect Natasha Case and real estate developer Freya Estreller got together they created Coolhaus, an ice cream sandwich company playing on three of their favorite things: Bauhaus, an influential modernist design movement of the 1920s and ’30s; Rem Koolhaas, a famous Dutch architect; and “cool house,” a deconstructed ice cream sandwich with a cookie roof and floor slab and ice cream walls.

This triple threat was an almost instant success when Natasha and Freya launched Coolhaus out of a renovated postal truck in 2008. Their unique and mouth-watering ice cream flavors (like Root Beer Float, Cherry Cheesecake, Maker’s Mark Bourbon Manhattan, and Dirty Mint) and homemade cookies—sandwiched and bearing punning, architect-inspired names like Frank Behry (strawberry and cream gelato between snickerdoodles) and Miew Vanilla Rohe (Tahitian vanilla ice cream with chocolate chip cookies)—resulted in rave reviews and scores of devotees.

Now, whether you are a long-time fan of the trucks or simply an ice cream addict, the Coolhaus Ice Cream Book can teach you how to recreate these delectable desserts at home.

  • Chapters cover ice creams, gelatos, sorbets, cookies, toppings, and shakes.
  • Headnotes include flavor tips, factoids about architectural greats, and amusing tales of these young entrepreneurs’ foray into the ice cream business.
  • Unique mix–and-match recipes give cooks the ability to build their own Coolhaus treats at home.

Like the distinctive concepts that launched this ice cream truck business, the Coolhaus Ice Cream Book delivers recipes and dessert ideas that can’t be found anywhere else.
